Although we were tempted to stay and sail these waters year after year, we knew our ultimate goal was to circumnavigate the world.
As we made our way south to the Ragged Islands, we encountered a challenging situation. Our boat started taking on water, and we had no idea why. We checked back in the morning, hoping for any signs of improvement. Luckily, we discovered that we hadn’t taken on any more water overnight. This was a relief and allowed us to continue our journey with a positive mindset.
Now sailing through a narrow section between rocks and a sand bank, we couldn’t help but feel the excitement of the day. The anchorage was peaceful and quiet, with only a few boats around. The crystal-clear blue water and ample wind made for a perfect sailing day. As long as we navigated carefully to avoid the rocks, we knew it was going to be a great day of exploring and enjoying the beauty of the Ragged Islands.

3. Enjoying Sailing Through Narrow Sections and Making the Most of the Bahamas Waters

During our recent 18-day voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, we had the opportunity to set foot on European soil. This was a significant milestone in our journey to sail around the world. While we love the Bahamas and considered staying here indefinitely, the allure of the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the South Pacific was too strong to resist. We knew we had to continue our circumnavigation.
Before bidding farewell to the Bahamas, we made our way south to the Ragged Islands. This area truly embodies everything we think sailing should be. It’s remote, serene, and devoid of boatyards, marinas, or other human presence. However, during our time here, we encountered a nightmare scenario when our boat started taking on water. After investigating the issue, we were relieved to find that there were no new leaks and we could continue our journey without any further water damage. With this good news, we set sail again, navigating through the narrow sections and enjoying the azure waters and abundance of fish in this breathtaking location. an Anchorage that served us well and provided us with a delicious Hogfish. However, the rolliness of the area prompted us to embark on a mission to find a more suitable and stable Anchorage. Our goal was to explore more of the beautiful Ragged Islands and continue our journey of sailing around the world.

However, the allure of new destinations such as the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and South Pacific still called to us, reminding us that our circumnavigation could not be cut short. Despite this, we knew that our time in the Bahamas may come to an end, so we decided to make our way south to the Ragged Islands.
Little did we know that our peaceful sailing adventure would take a sudden turn when our boat started taking on water, leaving us stranded far from any assistance. The dreaded bilge pump sounded off, and we were faced with the nightmare scenario every sailor fears. This unexpected challenge tested our resolve, but we remained optimistic and searched for a solution.
Fortunately, after a nerve-wracking night, we discovered that our boat had not taken on any more water. This was a promising sign and allowed us a moment of relief before continuing our journey. With renewed spirits, we set sail once again, navigating through narrow sections and enjoying the abundance of fish, blue waters, and favorable wind conditions.
As we embraced the serenity of this idyllic location with hardly anyone around, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for this great day on the sea. Our adventure in the Ragged Islands may be coming to an end, but the memories and experiences we have gained will stay with us forever.
As we prepare to sail further from civilization, we hold onto the hope that our journey will continue safely and that we will conquer any challenges that come our way.
