I’ll be meeting some local fishermen and hopefully, we’ll be spearing some Mahi this week. Mahi has always been my dream fish and I can’t wait to see it in the water and perhaps even spear one myself.

As I make my way through narrow channels surrounded by rocks and corals, I can’t help but appreciate the beauty of the Bahamas. After anchoring, I took some time to explore the surroundings, even attempting some spearfishing before heading out with the local fishermen later that night. Along the way, I had a magical encounter with a pyrosome, a fascinating colony of zooids. It’s moments like these that remind me why I fell in love with marine biology.

However, not everything always goes as planned. This morning, I woke up to a shocking discovery. The boat was flooded, with three feet of water in the bilge. The bilge pumps weren’t working and my electrical system seemed to be failing. It has been a stressful situation, but I’m determined to keep you updated as I navigate through this emergency. Right now, capturing the moment with my GoPro is not a priority. With the help of my friend, we’re doing our best to bail out the water and assess the damage.

Sailing is not always smooth sailing (pun intended). It’s important to show the reality, the challenges, and the not-so-pretty moments.
