– Challenges faced while navigating the channel and entering the Caribbean
In our latest adventure, we have successfully arrived in the Caribbean! Known as the mecca of cruisers, this destination holds great significance for sailors, but it’s our first time here on Delos. Over the past eight years, we have sailed extensively around the world, and now we find ourselves at the front door of the Caribbean. It’s incredible to think that if we were to repeat the exact same sail, we would end up in Miami. We are excited to experience the tropical islands, the infectious beats of steel drums, indulge in some rum, and join the vibrant community of cruisers in the region.
However, our journey hasn’t been without its challenges. As we navigated the channel and entered the Caribbean, we faced a few obstacles. Our navigation system began to fail, losing its position every few seconds. And of course, this happened right as we entered the channel, where the buoys were spaced far apart, making it difficult to navigate visually. Thankfully, we were able to rely on our chart and binoculars to dead reckon our position and use compass bearings to guide us. Additionally, we had to adjust our course slightly to compensate for the current pushing us to the west. Despite these challenges, we adapted, and our navigation system was eventually fixed after adjusting the Wi-Fi antenna and power converter. Now, we can fully embrace our time in the Caribbean and make the most of the exciting experiences that lie ahead.
– Troubleshooting and fixing the navigation system for smoother sailing
In this episode, the crew of Delos finally makes it to the Caribbean, a dream destination for many sailors. However, not everything goes smoothly as their navigation system starts failing just as they enter the channel. With buoys several miles apart, it becomes crucial for them to rely on their memory and binoculars to navigate. They also have to compensate for the current and adjust their course accordingly.
As they sail further into the Caribbean, the weather picks up with 20 knots of wind. Without a functioning navigation system, the crew decides to make the best of the conditions and troubleshoot their instruments once they reach a shallower area. After some tweaking, they are able to fix the navigation system by adjusting the Wi-Fi antenna that had somehow come into contact with the power converter. With their system back in working order, they can now confidently continue their journey through the Caribbean waters.
Overall, the crew’s perseverance and resourcefulness in troubleshooting and fixing their navigation system demonstrates their determination to explore new destinations while sailing. Despite the challenges they face, they remain motivated to make the most of their time in the Caribbean and are excited about the adventures that lie ahead. Stay tuned for the next episode to see what surprises the crew encounters in this stunning part of the world.

As we approach the Caribbean, we encounter a few challenges. Our navigation system starts acting up, losing its position every few seconds. Just as we enter the channel, the buoys become far apart, making it difficult to navigate. But thanks to our experience and memory of the chart, we use binoculars and dead reckon to find our way. The current poses an additional challenge, pushing us slightly off course. But we make the necessary adjustments and continue towards our next mark.
Despite the rough weather conditions and a glitch in the navigation system, we make the best of the situation. Once we pass the shallowest area, we trim the sails and troubleshoot our instruments.
